Then, um... Let's see... I mentioned before that my job was hunting down Heretics, right? It... wasn't exactly pleasant, but it was something that needed to be done. There was also the part where the Gracia church had my life in their hands, but... It needed to be done, and even if I didn't want to do it, someone would still end up having to do it: Another Stillblood like me, probably.
And then I got brought here, and... How do I put it? Not much actually changed. There was still dirty work that needed to be done, someone needed to do it, and the Foundation had my life in their hands. But still, the ones they sent me after weren't Heretics plotting something that would endanger the world, they were just people that didn't agree with the Foundation and were planning to escape. And I was chosen because... I was already part of their group.
I don't even know if they actually were planning to rebel or not, to be honest.
...So basically they're having you work as an assassin.
[Yikes. Um. Hm.]
Well, it's not like I haven't had anything to do with that either... [He did help track people down and all.] They'll really kill you if you don't help, huh?
Well, I'm not sure if that's always the case, but I have been told that going against orders will get me "terminated". I don't know for sure if that was a special case or not, but it still kind of... left an impression on me?
I did, but I think it was a bit different from your case... In the first place, he wasn't a 6350 like all of us here. He was part of a Mobile Task Force called "The Silencers", I think? I'm pretty sure I was assigned him because of my nature as a former Stillblood.
...Well, thinking back on it, it might have been a mistake on my part, too. The mission I was told that was also one that was pretty thoroughly redacted. I still can't talk about the details there at all. I can't even talk about who was on the mission with me, beyond what he looks like.
I'll... have to ask around once we get back, and find out what missions I'm allowed to refuse. Obviously, I probably can't refuse any redacted missions, but...
Right. Actually, when I became an S-Rank, there were only six of them: me, three second years, a third year, and one of the teachers was an S-Rank too. We weren't all a team yet at that point. The third year, Feene, was basically on semi-permanent cleanup duty outside one of the more dangerous dusk circles to minimize the damage done from Dusk Monsters, and the only male S-Rank, Alec, was basically in charge of all the defenses in Fort City, so we never really had a chance to work with him properly.
He and God's Gift were pretty close, though. To the point where they actually did the Classmating ritual together at one point.
come to think of it, I explained this stuff to Angel before, but I haven't really talked to you about it before...
Okay, so. In my world, Aterra, everyone's born with Star Energy inside of them. I've mentioned that before, I think. Star Energy itself is split between six elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Dusk, and Ether. I've talked about Dusk and Ether with you a bit before.
But Ether is actually really important, and we normally couldn't enter the Dusk Labyrinths, because using Star Energy requires a certain amount of Ether in the atmosphere, and Dusk Labyrinths have no Ether inside them.
But if there's someone whose body produces enough Ether, it makes it possible to enter the Dusk Labyrinths with a group to explore it and seal the Labyrinth. The person with that kind of power is known as the "God's Gift" according to the teachings of the Aterra church, and coincidentally, one showed up at about the same time I arrived in Fort City, so he was assigned to the same team as most of us S-Ranks, and we were given the job of entering the Labyrinths. God's Gift was also um... Someone I knew as a kid.
[...Does it class as an ex-boyfriend if we never really properly established things, he was dating six other people, and he probably doesn't even exist in the same world as us...?]
Well, we only met once, though he did kind of save my life at the time... And gave me a reason to live, but...
Anyways, Classmating. I should talk about Classmating!
So, there's a Ritual back in Aterra, held by the main Aterra church. In short, by mixing the Ether of a male and the star energy of a female into a magical tool known as a Matryoshka, it can produce magical warriors known as Star Children. And part of our duty as S-Ranks and the God's Gift's duty as a... God's Gift, is to perform the Classmating ritual as much as possible to help produce an army to help fight off the Dusk Monsters. After all, doing those things together guaranteed a Star Child would be produced, even though normally it would only be... a 0.003% chance I think it was?
[I'm sorry, she just starts coughing in response to that, yes. I know we're sort of dating, but... We've known each other for two months??? Isn't it a bit early to be contemplating marriage???]
...Umm... I think we might need to... be able to advance to hugging before that's a problem...
[Feels kind of bad, though... He needs to pay more attention. No more mind reading, not thanks to Ichigo's rule and also possible brain death in the future.]
I'm not allowed to read minds anymore, so it feels like there's a lot I still don't know. Like...

You don't remember having a mentor?

...Red's the one who was trying to teach me to think more about the kinds of missions I took. But...
[Is that even an option for her?]

I'll... have to ask around once we get back, and find out what missions I'm allowed to refuse. Obviously, I probably can't refuse any redacted missions, but...

It's probably worth trying! Red was able to help me turn some down, so maybe you can still get out of some of them, too!
[He
Has definitely learned his lesson regarding missions, it seems.]

Then, putting that aside from now, um... Was there anything else you wanted to talk about?
[I mean, there's still probably a lot, but... direction would be nice.]

So what's the Classmating ritual again? And "God's Gift?"

Oh, so he's the childhood friend route.
[This makes perfect sense.]

[YOSHI LITERALLY WHY HAVE YOU NOT ASKED THIS AT ANY EARLIER POINT IN TIME.]

[This is slightly more awkward than when I talked about this with Angel, yes!]

[He's laughing it off, but. Hm. Awkward indeed.]

...Umm... I think we might need to... be able to advance to hugging before that's a problem...
no subject
Nah, not really. But this is still really awkward.]
Whoops! I guess that's what they call a flat joke.
Anyway- it's surprising, but I haven't asked you too much about yourself, huh? [Which is also probably a problem worth looking at here.]
no subject
[Which is why I kind of went straight to the important stuff with you instead of these things.]
That being said, I think you already know the important things for the most part.
